Stuffed Ring Ouzel female Turdus torquatus Thrush Birds Aves Passeriformes Turdidae, only a piece, with pedestal, as in photo. Family: Turdidae. Common name: Ring Ouzel. The Ring Ouzel (Turdus torquatus Linnaeus, 1758) is a bird of the Turdidae family. Migratory species, the three subspecies are distributed from Europe to Turkmenistan. A territorial bird, it has solitary habits during the reproductive period, before becoming gregarious in the rest of the year. As with most Turdids, its diet depends on the availability offered by the environment and varies according to the season: insectivorous during the reproductive season and frugivorous in autumn-winter. It has medium dimensions: length 27 cm, wingspan 38-42 cm, average weight 110 g. The adult male is recognized by the characteristic collar, which is missing in the female. The plumage is blackish with greenish-brown reflections. It has a yellowish beak and silvery-looking wings, because they are edged with white feathers. Paws and feet are brown. Its life cycle can exceed nine years. The female dedicates herself to building the nest low above the ground, on the ground among thick vegetation or in the crack of a rock. The cup-shaped nest is made up of pieces of wood and grass, consolidated with earth and garnished and carpeted with finer plant materials. The four or five eggs laid are incubated mainly by the female. The chicks are cared for by both parents. The Ring Ouzel is parasitized by the cuckoo and various ectoparasites.
