Common name: Eurasian Teal, Common Teal, Eurasian Green-Winged Teal. Syn. Anas circia, Nettion crecca, Nettium crecca, Querquedula crecca. The Teal (Anas crecca Linnaeus, 1758) is a bird of the Anatidae family. The color of the male is variegated, the female is almost totally brown. The teal is the smallest European duck. Its diet is very varied, it nests in spring in areas close to water and dense vegetation. The pair builds a nest on the ground, close to the water, covered by branches or various vegetation. It lays seven to twelve yellow-green eggs. Present in Europe, Asia and Africa. Passing, nesting and wintering in Italy, most of the European flocks are migratory and move to the warm countries of Northern Africa, while in Italy they are partially sedentary. 2 subspecies are known: Anas crecca crecca Anas crecca nimia.
