Origin : Yellow Sea (China)
Chlamys farreri nipponensis mm 55-65 Seashell Bivalve Scallop Comb Clam Pectinid, both valves. Trawled in about 25 mt deep on sand bottom, 11/2014. Common name: The Farrer's Scallop or The Chinese Scallop. Syn. Azumapecten farreri, Chlamys nantiensis, Pecten (Chlamys) farreri, Pecten laetus, Scaeochlamys farreri. Chlamys farreri is a species of scallop, a marine bivalve mollusk in the family Pectinidae. This species is farmed at an industrial level off mainland China, but production was devastated by a series of epidemics in the 1990. It is now thought that this die-off was the result of infections with a herpes virus in the family Malacoherpesviridae. It should be noted for all bivalves that the two valves may have been glued or remained closed due to the dried ligament and therefore the article is presented as a single piece. We are therefore not responsible for any damage caused to the product to try to separate the pieces.
