Its maximum measured length is approximately 4 meters. Its natural habitat consists of tropical and subtropical waters. In the Mediterranean Sea it is present but not common. It has a hydrodynamic muzzle, small pectoral fins to reduce friction, rigid dorsal fin to stabilize the trim, cylindrical body with grooves for a smooth running, wide grooves to retain more oxygen. Unpredictable in attacks, it uses its burning acceleration to catch fast prey like tuna and blue fish. It is one of the few species of shark that, like the white shark or black fin fish shark of the reef, can jump out of the water, even well beyond the length of your body: in the specific case, the mako can rise, leaping, even at 6 meters high from the surface. It comes to swim at speeds of 70 km/h, and it is able to swim for many miles in a short time; celebrated the case of a specimen that traveled 2128 km in 37 days. It feeds on blue fish and calamari. It is not infrequently attacking large fish (including marlin and swordfish).
