Rhombodus is a prehistoric genus of Race belonging to the Rhombodontidae family whose fossils have been found in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas in rocks dating back to the Maastrichtian (last stage of the Upper Cretaceous), 70 to 56 million years ago. The most important finds are the rhombic teeth, specialized for grinding shells, the caudal spines and the vertebrae, which are usually all that is fossilized of these cartilaginous sharks.
These rhombic teeth are bilobed, with vertical wrinkles and a maximum width of about 1.5 centimeters (0.59 in).
Rhombodus species could reach a length of 75-100 centimeters (30-39 inches).
