Australian Mookaite Jasper 1 Piece 5-10 gr cm 1.5-3 Raw Minerals Stones Rocks for Collection. Mookaite or Mokaite is an Australian Jasper whose earthy colors fade into yellow and light red. The term "Mookaite" is an unofficial invented name, referring to a type of Australian jasper from the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia, near Mooka Creek is where this stone was discovered and named. The stone is known by several names (some incorrect or crippled in various dialects and languages), such as Mookite, Moakite, Mookiate, Moukite, Mookalite, Mookerite, Mook or Mook Jasper. The stone is a combination of Flint, Opalite and Chalcedony, which depends on the amount of Silica present in the material. It is also a silicated Radiolarite, a biogenic sedimentary rock, composed of the endoskeletons of the Radiolaria (fossil protozoa with siliceous skeleton). Occasionally, footprints of Ammonites and other organisms have also been preserved. Since the stone is mainly composed of Silica, it is quite hard with a resistance between 6 and 7 on the Mohs scale. Some of the more opal materials can be extremely brittle and difficult to work with.
