Diopside 1 Piece 71-90 gr - cm 4.5-6 Raw Minerals Stones Rocks for Collection. Diòpside is a mineral belonging to the group of Inosilicates, more precisely it is part of the Pyroxenes. Diopside occurs in elongated prismatic crystals, most often in columnar and granular aggregates of green, yellow, blue, brown and whitish color. This mineral is heavy, hard, brittle and acid insoluble. When transparent, it is an ornamental stone also used in jewelry. Diopside is found in intrusive and deep phylonian rocks, in calcium-rich metamorphic rocks and in diaclases. It is found mainly in Brazil and also in Madagascar. Exceptional crystals are present in the alpine rodingites of Piedmont and Val d'Aosta, but also on Adamello and Monte Somma (Vesuvius). In Europe it can be found in the Urals, the Austrian Tyrol, Finland and Sweden. Schefferite is a brown-colored variety of diopside rich in manganese.
