The Charoite is a rare silicate, and even though it was discovered in 1940, was not known to the rest of the world until it was officially described in 1978. It was found only in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia, Siberia, Russia) and takes its name from Chara River.
 This mineral occurs translucent purple color with a pearly luster which, together with its intense color, it may lead to believe it is synthetic or enhanced artificially. However, when it is found in nature, looks dull and unattractive, a fact that may have contributed to its late recognition.
