Fuchsite 1 Piece 41-60 gr - cm 4-7 Muscovite Raw Minerals Stones Rocks for Collection. Fuchsite is a silver-green chromatic variety of Muscovite with lamellar crystals containing trivalent chromium instead of Aluminum. It is at the first degree of the Mohs scale (it is scored with a fingernail) and has a vitreous luster. The green color is due to chromium impurities that replace some aluminum atoms, however to speak of fuchsite, chromium must be greater than 4.8% of the mineral, otherwise we are talking about Mariposite which takes its name from Mariposa in California, while the Fuchsite is named after J. N.von Fuchs, a German geologist and mineralogist. In nature it occurs in scaly aggregates or in crystals. Structurally, the mineral is a mica. It is found in granites and pegmatites, but also in mica schists together with biotite, in metamorphosed dolomites or in marbles or in calcescists or in olivine peridotites or serpentines. It is found in northern Italy, Austria and the Urals (Russia).
