The Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula, Christ, 1791) is a hymenoptera of the Vespidae family, widespread on the European continent and in North Africa.
It reaches a length of between 11 and 18 millimeters. Workers and drones are between 11 and 15 millimeters long, queens up to 18 millimetres. It is a wasp that can be recognized by its slender figure, with shiny black and yellow bands. It is characterized by the yellow color of the last urosternite and by yellow cheeks and mandibles that are almost always completely black. It is a wasp with medium-low aggression. It is easily confused with Vespula germanica, similar to Polistes dominula but more aggressive.
