Trachelophorus giraffa Pair cm 1-1.5 Tropical Insect Coleopter True Weevil Snout Beetle Curculionidae.
Common name: The Giraffe Weevil.

The Giraffe Weevil (Trachelophorus giraffa Voss, 1929) is a weevil beetle endemic to Madagascar.
Its name comes from its long neck, very similar to that of a giraffe. This insect is sexually dimorphic, with the male's neck being approximately 2 to 3 times longer than the female's. Most of the body is black with red details, with elytra covering the flying wings. The elongated neck is an adaptation that helps with nest building and is also useful for fighting.
To attract a mating partner, males are known to perform elaborate displays that include swinging their necks, showing off their bright colors. The female giraffe weevil then evaluates the dance, and if she approves, the male will have the opportunity to engage in courtship.
When it is time to breed, the mother rolls a leaf of the host plant (Melastomataceae) into a tube, lays a single egg inside, and then cuts the roll from the rest of the leaf, dropping it onto the forest floor. The leaf then provides food for the larva in its first days of life.
There are other species of beetles that share the common name of giraffe weevil, such as Lasiorhynchus barbicornis from New Zealand.
