Description

Origin : Italy (Lombardia)

Trichoferus holosericeus cinereus cm 1.5-2 Insect Coleopter Longhorn Beetle Long-Horned Longicorns Cerambycidae.
Syn. Trichoferus cinereus, Cerambyx cinereus (invalid).
Renamed from Cerambyx cinereus, due to homonymy with Cerambyx cinereus (or Cerambyx cylindricus).

Trichoferus holosericeus together with Trichoferus griseus is among the most widespread and common Western Palearctic representatives of the Trichoferus genus, present throughout the Mediterranean, Middle East, Asia Minor and Transcaucasia.
The larvae of this widely polyphagous species can feed and grow on bark-free wood with a moisture content lower than the fiber saturation point, therefore they can develop into wooden artefacts of various woody species, even older ones. For this reason, together with Hylotrupes bajulus, it is among the most significant Cerambycidae, technical parasites of old and dry woody material in the Mediterranean. The adults are crepuscular and nocturnal like the other Hesperophanini.
