Description

Origin : Bohemia

Plagionotus arcuatus Insect Coleopter Longhorn Beetle, Long-Horned or Longicorns Cerambycidae, A1- quality (specimen present slight imperfections).
Common name: Longhorned Wasp Beetle.
Syn. Cerambyx arcuatus, Callidium arcuatum, Clytus arcuatus, Callidium lunatum, Leptura acuata.

Plagionotus arcuatus presents a strong Batesian Mimicry in which their yellow-black livery recalls that of a wasp, hence the common name, although it is a long beetle and not a beetle.
The larvae of the subgenus Plagionotus are xylophagous and prefer broad-leaved wood (oak, beech, chestnut). Adults can be found near woodpiles and tree trunks.
The genus Plagionotus is widespread in Europe. In Italy it is present with four species: Plagionotus arcuatus, Plagionotus detritus, Plagionotus floralis and Plagionotus scalaris.
