Description

Origin : Italy (Lombardia)

Pieris Artogeia brassicae one wing lenght cm 2.5-3 Insect Butterfly Pierid Pieridae, Pieridae, A1- quality (specimen present slight imperfections).
Common name: The Greater Cabbage Butterfly, The Large Cabbage white, Cabbage Moth.
Syn. Artogeia brassicae, Papilio brassicae.

The cabbage butterfly greater is distinguished from other related species of the genus Pieris for the larger size and the cabbage butterfly minor, with which it shares a common staining very similar, as well as the dimensions, for the fact that the apex dark on the front wings is more extended and reaches at least to the third vein.
In both sexes the back of the wings is white, with a dark apex on the front wings, and females can also always observe the two black spots on the forewings. In both sexes the other side of the hind wings are grayish yellow, one of the front with two white spots. Pieridae belong to the family of about 1500 species, but in Italy and in Europe there are fewer than twenty. They are easily identifiable because they have wings generally white or yellow with a few designs. Sexual dimorphism is not always obvious and there may also be seasonal differences between the different generations.
