Butterfly one wing lenght cm 4-5 Insect Tropical Butterfly Papilionidae Swallowtail. Common name: Lime Butterfly, Lemon Butterfly, Lime Swallowtail, Chequered Swallowtail. Papilio demoleus Linnaeus, 1758, is a butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae (Swallowtail), widespread in Asia and Oceania. It has a wingspan of 80-100 mm. Its common names refer to host plants, usually citrus species cultivated of which is a parasite with invasive forms from Asia and Australia that have spread up to the Caribbean and Central America, adapting to different habitats. It lives in savannas, vacant lots, gardens, evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. In India it is mainly in the plain, but can be found in the hills and up to 2,100 meters in the Himalayas. It is common in urban gardens and you can also meet in the wooded countryside. The butterfly is an invader very successful: its spread appears to be due to its skill in flight, and to increasingly urbanization with use of agricultural land to open up new areas for the dispersion, with a greater availability of food plants. 6 subspecies are recognized: P. d. demoleus P. d. libanius P. d. malayanus P. d. novoguineensis P. d. sthenelus P. d. stenelinus
