Only a piece, as in photos. Ostraea (common name: True Oyster) is a genus of marine bivalve molluscs belonging to the Ostreidae family with a rounded shell covered with wavy scaly lamellae. The shell tends to be bumpy due to attachment to a substrate. The two valves are unequal and the lower one, to which the animal is anchored, is larger and more hollow than the upper one. It lives in all the seas of Europe at shallow depths, This genre is very old. It is known in the fossil record from the Permian to the Quaternary (age range: 259 to 0.0 million years ago). Fossil shells of these molluscs can be found all over the world. The genus Ostraea includes approximately 150 extinct species.
