Dive collected in September 2020 at 20-30 meters deep.
Family: Arbaciidae.
Common name: Benten or Azuma Sea Urchin (japanese).
Syn. Keraiophorus maculatus.


Coelopleurus is an extant genus of echinoids with fossil records dating back to the Eocene, found in Europe and North America.
These abyssal sea urchins are characterized by their strikingly bright color, usually red and white, which also shows up in their brightly colored exoskeletons, even after drying and sometimes even after fossilization.
